알렉산더 웬트(Alexander Wendt)1989년 미네소타대학 정치학 박사학위 수료 이후, 예일대학, 다트머스대학, 시카고대학을 거쳐 현재 오하이오주립대학 정치학과 교수로 재직 중이다. 1987년 박사과정 중 International Organization(IO)에 발표한 “The Agent-Structure Problem in International Relations Theory” 논문 이후, 국제정치이론의 구성주의 학파를 신현실주의와 신제도주의의 반열에 올려 놓는 데 공헌하였다. 주요 논문으로는 1992년 “Anarchyis What States Make of it,” “CollectiveIdentity Formation and the International State,” “OnConstitution and Causation in International Relations,” “Why a World State is Inevitable,” “SocialTheory as Cartesian Science: An Auto-Critique from a Quantum Perspective,” “Sovereignty and the UFO” 등이 있다. Social Theory of International Politics는 1999년 미국국제정치학회(ISA)로부터 “Best Book of the Decade” 상을 받았으며, 현재 9개국어로 번역되었다. 지서 20년간 KennethWaltz, RobertKeohane과 더불어 국제정치학에 학문적으로 가장 많은 공헌을 하였고, 지난 5년간 국제정치학분야에서 학문적으로 가장 영향력 있는 학자로 손꼽히고 있다.
