통차이 위니짜꾼(Thongchai Winichakul)위스콘신대학교 역사학과 명예교수. 태국의 탐마삿대학교 역사학과를 졸업하고, 호주 시드니대학교에서 역사학 석사학위와 박사학위를 받았다. 1988년부터 1991년까지 탐마삿대학교에서 가르쳤고, 1991년부터 2016년 명예교수로 은퇴할 때까지 미국 위스콘신대학교 역사학과에서 교수로 재직했다. 2013/2014년에는 미국 아시아학회 회장을 역임하기도 했으며, 미국 학술원 회원이다. 현재(2019년)는 일본 아시아경제연구소 선임연구원으로 재직하고 있다. 저서로 Moments of Silence: The Unforgetting of the October 6, 1976 Massacre in Bangkok(2020)이 있고, 주요 논문으로 “Modern Historiography in Southeast Asia: The Case of Thailand’s Royal-Nationalist History”(2014), “Siam’s Colonial Conditions and the Birth of Thai History”(2011), “Writing at the Interstices: Southeast Asian Historians and Post-National Histories in Southeast Asia”(2003), “The Others Within: Travel and Ethno-spatial Differentiation of Siamese Subjects, 1885-1910”(2000), “The Quest for ‘Siwilai’: A Geographical Discourse of Civilizational Thinking in the Late 19th and early 20th Century Siam”(2000) 등이 있다. 대표작
