스티븐 와츠미조리대학의 역사학 교수로 재직 중이다. 『The People's Tycoon: Henry Ford and the American Century』『The Magic Kingdom: Walt Disney and the American Way of Life』『The Republic Reborn: War and the Making of Liberal America, 1790~1820』등을 비롯한 다수의 책을 저술했다. 특히 The Republic Reborn: War and the Making of Liberal America, 1790~1820』은 National Historical Society에서 ‘올해의 책’에 선정되었고, American Studies Association에서 ‘최고의 책’을 수상했다.
